The Kingdom of Dungloon is a greatly overlooked place. This is not particularly surprising as it has little in the way of trade, beauty or collective intelligence. Ruled by a senile King, it has little ambition of becoming an empire and even less chance of doing so. Having said that, it is a good place to go out for a beer...

Not much is known about the Dwarf woodcutter who lives alone in the woods and that’s just the way Percy Bogg wants it to stay. Percy has no friends, no family (that he will admit to) and invites no guests. People annoy him and when they don’t, it means they probably want a favour, which annoys him even more. Worse still, they might want to borrow some money. They’d be out of luck. Apart from his faithful horse, Bogg only loves gold. It is this greed that leads him on a hazardous quest and in to something he could never have imagined.
It isn’t clear why Percy is the way he is. There are events in his past that he won’t mention but whatever happened, they have turned him in to a recluse with a deep mistrust of others. Why did he leave his brothers? Why is the Mysterious Stranger following him? Deep down, is Bogg really such a nasty character? His horse wouldn’t say so (if he could speak) and maybe he might just meet someone along the way who will be able to see beneath the hardened surface...

The Mysterious Stranger is very, erm... mysterious. The only thing even more mysterious than the Mysterious Stranger is his mysterious black cloak. For some mysterious reason, he has a grudge against Bogg and it seems to have something to do with bananas. He has felt compelled to track down the bane of his existence and extract his revenge. Things just never seem to go according to plan though. The banana connection remains a mystery and it’s all very frustrating for the Mysterious Stranger. Why does he have a grudge? Why does he keep getting wet? Why bananas? Will he get his revenge? Curse the Lords of Magic, will all these mysteries remain a mystery forever?
Probably.

Ever the bully and thrown out of every school he attended (much to the annoyance of his twin), Grumble is the most evil being in the area. At least that is what he would like everyone to think. He is not the brightest of ogres, which is not surprising considering his lack of academic experience. In reality, he is mostly ignored by the populace rather than feared by them. A troll has taken advantage of his gullibility and even his servile Snirks delight in their disobedience. Pushed to the brink of his patience, admittedly not too far a push, Grumble decides to take action to gain some respect. The plan he hatches is diabolically evil. The results are not quite what he was expecting or what he had really hoped for. Perhaps we should have pity on him? Nah!
Grimble is the long suffering twin of Grumble and it is a suffering he can’t escape, in a being joined at the shoulders and sharing the same body kind of way. Grimble is the long suffering twin of Grumble and it is a suffering he can’t escape, in a being joined at the shoulders and sharing the same body kind of way. Despite this, he is probably the only one with any affection for his brother and tries his best to cheer him up. Grimble could probably have made a success of his life without the encumbrance of his twin but being the weaker willed of the two and not being quite as violent has made him in to the follower rather than the leader. Instead, he tries to stay quiet and only open his mouth to fill it with profuse amounts of porridge. Unfortunately, regular thumps remind him just how difficult it actually is for him to shut up.

Princess Sophie is your typical damsel in distress and if there was any form of women’s liberation in her kingdom (which there isn’t), she would probably set it back by a few hundred years. In fact, it is more likely that ardent supporters of women’s lib’ would actually look at her, realise just how hopeless their task is and go straight back to the kitchen with ‘please oppress me’ placards around their necks. She is extremely attractive but fails to realise this and despairs that the secret love of her life, a certain Dwarf, will ever fall for her. She is incredibly stupid, fairly naive, ignorant of the ways of the world and totally pathetic in every way. She also has a habit of fainting at the first sign of trouble or, for that matter, the first sign of anything at all. This may explain why a group of incompetent Snirks find it so easy to kidnap her...
From The Book
“As she turned from her window and into the plush room that was her bedchamber, the attractive Princess took a deep breath in order to sigh and nearly choked as she swallowed a whole grape. Slowly recovering and with eyes watering, Sophie gazed deeply into her favourite wall mirror and wished that she were more beautiful. In fact, the ‘mirror’ was a recent portrait of the last court jester, Bodmin (or Bod-the-Bore as he had been known). Sophie was apparently unaware of her error and constantly referred to her ears as ‘those horrible long pointed red and yellow things’, much to the bafflement, consternation and embarrassment of the King and Queen.”

Completely out of touch. That is exactly what King Dunwin Plonk is with his subjects, his staff and even his family. Starting on the throne in immaturity, the King bypassed maturity and jumped straight to senility. In blissful ignorance, he believes that he is loved by all and is happy to tuck in to his many daily meals, safe in the knowledge that he is doing a good job at running the kingdom. Nobody can be positively sure how he became a father and he doesn’t seem to be too upset at the thought of losing his only daughter either. This tends to put a spanner in the works of Grumble’s master plan, at least until the Captain of the Guard decides to take matters in to his own hands...

Snirks are the rodent-like creatures employed by Grumble and Grimble as domestic servants. They also undertake missions for Grumble although one has to wonder whether his trust is misplaced. He certainly wonders. Life for them is a series of games where mischief rules and respect is a concept they can’t quite grasp. If they do anything for Grumble, it is generally because they think it sounds like fun. Grumble holds a certain amount of control over them as they are understandably wary of his frequent violent outbursts but Grimble can’t seem to communicate with them at all.
It’s not clear where Snirks originate from but they are often found in the most bizarre places. If you happen across them, chances are they are having fun doing something. Be careful that it’s not at your expense.
